Whether we like it or not, Christmas is just around the corner. We haven’t even started shopping yet in my household. I’m not ready. The shopping, endless Christmas music, malls pushing their sales. It all just makes me feel like a Scrooge. And I don’t want to be a Scrooge.
I have a million and one things to be thankful for this year, not the least of which is my fabulous new job working for Dave Ramsey. I get to feel like I’m a part of something bigger every day. But this time of year…*sigh*. I just wish it could be more like Thanksgiving. You get together with your family and friends and celebrate what you’re thankful for with a great meal. And it seems like all Christmas about is “Gimme, gimme, gimme!”
I love to give. Dave teaches us that giving is one of the best parts of becoming wealthy. And I agree. I love to leave a great tip at a restaurant or donate to a favorite charity or even tithe to my church. But at those times, it isn’t an obligation. It comes from the heart, and it feels right. God wants us to be givers.
With all the hype surrounding the Christmas season, it’s just a little harder to get excited about it. And it makes it just a little easier to get tired of it before the season even really gets underway.
